Bethany Lutheran Preschool:  Supporting the Whole Child through the Connecticut Early                                                          Learning and Development Standards

At BLPS, we are committed to nurturing each child’s growth and development by aligning our curriculum with the Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS). Our engaging, play-based environment encourages exploration, creativity and social connection through carefully planned activities across all domains of early learning:

Language and Literacy: We foster a love of language through daily exposure to books and stories. Children participate in both group and individual story times, accompanied by interactive activities that reinforce comprehension, vocabulary and expressive communication.

Social and Emotional Development: We prioritize building strong, trusting relationships between children and staff. Our approach helps children recognize and manage their emotions, develop empathy and build a strong sense of self and community.

Science: Children are encouraged to be natural scientists – asking questions, making observations and forming conclusions. We explore the natural world and the relationships between people and the environment through hands-on investigation.

Cognition: Our program nurtures cognitive growth by promoting curiosity and active engagement with materials and peers. Children practice skills such as cause and effect, sorting, patterning, problem-solving, persistence and memory in a supportive setting.

Social Studies: We help children understand their place in the world by learning about themselves, their families and their communities. Activities support awareness of roles, traditions and shared experiences.

Creative Arts: Our rich creative arts program includes opportunities for visual art, music, movement and dramatic play. We celebrate our young artists with an annual Art Show that showcases their creative achievements.

Physical Development and Health: Daily indoor and outdoor play promotes gross motor development and healthy habits. Children enjoy a variety of physical activities including balance beams, climbers, obstacle courses and gymnastic mats, all designed to support physical coordination and strength.

Mathematics: Early math skills are introduced through playful learning experiences that include counting, number recognition, measuring, sorting and identifying shapes and patterns. At BLNS, we are dedicated to supporting each child’s unique journey by creating a joyful and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
